Cleric Reiterates Iran's Steadfast Opposition to Nuclear Weapon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top Iranian cleric underlined Tehran's opposition to nuclear weapons, and said the existing opposition to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program emanates from the negative propaganda campaign waged by Zionists.

Addressing a large congregation of Iranian people here in Tehran today, Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani pointed to the enemies’ strong opposition to Iran’s nuclear progress and said “enmity towards Islam” is the reason behind their opposition to the peaceful program, and the nuclear issue is not the main issue.

“But the enemy has problems with Islam.”

The US and some of its allies, Israel in particular, argue that Iran’s nuclear program might include a military component.

Iran, however, rejects the allegation, arguing that numerous inspections of its nuclear sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have invariably failed to find any diversion towards military purposes.

The Iranian cleric also reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic is strongly opposed to the use of nuclear weapons, and called on the Islamic community to remain vigilant in the face of negative propaganda campaign mounted by the Zionist regime of Israel against Iran.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has already issued a fatwa that strongly prohibits the development, production, stockpiling and the use of nuclear weapons.
