Iran Proposes Joint Mechanism to Avert Terrorism in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council suggested that neighbors of Afghanistan should develop a joint security and intelligence mechanism to counter the threat of terrorism and foil plans for the transfer of Takfiri terrorists to Afghanistan.

Should the transfer of terrorist groups to Afghanistan go on, the borders of Iran, China, and Russia will face serious threats, Ali Shamkhani said in a meeting with Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee under the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Guo Shengkun, held in Moscow on Thursday.

Warning against the attempts by sponsors of Takfiri terrorism to transfer the remnants of defeated militants from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan, Shamkhani called for close cooperation among Iran, China, Russia, Pakistan and Afghanistan in preventing the spread of terrorism in the region.

He also proposed the formation of a common intelligence, security and operational mechanism to curb the deployment of terrorist groups to Afghanistan.

Shamkhani further deplored the US sanctions against Iran, Russia and China, stressing the need for a common strategy to counter Washington’s policies.

The Chinese official, for his part, denounced the US for its covert supports for the factors behind regional insecurity and its attempts to harm Iran, China and Russia by imposing sanctions.

Shengkun also voiced China’s readiness for the exchange of data and constant interaction with the Iranian security officials in the war against terrorism.

In comments in January, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the US role in the emergence of Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) terrorists in the Middle East, saying the creators of such criminal group plan to move it to Afghanistan.

“The very same hands that created Daesh to use it as an instrument for oppression and crime against the people of Syria and Iraq, now and after facing defeat in the regions, are seeking to relocate Daesh to Afghanistan,” the Leader noted, saying the US aims to legitimize its military presence in the region and ensure the security of the Zionist regime of Israel.
