Asian Women’s U-17 Volleyball C’ship: Iran Loses to Australia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran was defeated against Australia in Pool C of the 12th Asian Women’s U-17 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Municipality Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Australia defied against all odds to stun Iran in tie-breaker 22-25 20-25 25-19 25-21 15-9 and top the pool at its last preliminary encounter.

Annelies Jones and Alisha Stevens similarly scored a match-high 16 points apiece for the winning team, while Alissa Kinkela added 13 points including 10 kills.

Negar Salahshouri led Iran with 14 points and Zahra Rezaei contributed 12 points.

Iran started the competition with a 3-0 victory over New Zealand.

The 2018 Asian Women’s U-17 Volleyball Championship is a biennial international volleyball tournament organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with Thailand Volleyball Association (TVA) for the girls' under-17 national teams of Asia.

The tournament will be held in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, from 20 to 27 May 2018.
