Refinery Explosion in Bavaria Sends 8 to Hospital with 2,000 Forced to Evacuate (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Firefighters and emergency services were deployed at the refinery in the Bavarian town of Ingolstadt on Saturday, after an explosion caused a fire that has been raging on for hours, in which eight people were injured earlier in the day.

A video shows thick smoke billowing from the burning building following the explosion at the Bayernoil refinery, near the city of Ingolstadt.

Fire engines are at the scene and some 200 firefighters are reported to be tackling the blaze, Express reported.

2,000 residents evacuated after the explosion at an oil refinery in Germany this morning.

Water can be seen being sprayed on the smoking building in the video.

A police statement warned that there is "a risk of more explosions”.

The statement said that work is being done to put out the fire.

Of the eight people reported to be injured, three of the victims have medium or serious injuries, according to police.

Residents living in Vohburg and Irsching were evacuated.

The cause of the explosion - which could be felt from several kilometres away according to local media - is not currently known.

Bayernoil is a Bavaria-based refinery company with two sites in the area.
