Iran Beats Kazakhstan in AVC Cup for Women

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Kazakhstan 3-2 (23-25 25-17 19-25 25-23 15-6) in the opening match of the 2018 Asian Women's Volleyball Cup, so-called 2018 AVC Cup for Women in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand on Sunday.

Maedeh Borhani Esfahani scored a match-high 29 points for Iran from 21 attacks, 3 blocks and 5 aces, while Mahsa Kadkhoda and Mahsa Saberi added 18 and 16 points respectively.

 Anastasia Rostovchshikova led Kazakhstan with 18 points.

Team Melli will face the Philippines on Monday in Pool C.

The 2018 AVC Cup for Women is the sixth edition of the Asian Women's Volleyball Cup, a biennial international volleyball tournament organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with Thailand Volleyball Association (TVA).

The tournament is being held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, from 16 to 23 September 2018.

As hosts,Thailand automatically qualified for the tournament, while the remaining 9 teams, qualified from the 2017 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in Biñan and Muntinlupa, Philippines.
