Persian-Speakers Observe Anniversary of Imam Hussein’s Martyrdom in Toronto, Canada (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Thousands of Persian speakers held mourning processions in Toronto, Canada on the day of Ashura, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shiite Imam.
A video published on YouTube shows the faithful Shiite Muslims carrying flags of Imam Hussein (AS), dressed in black, are holding a rally in the streets of Toronto in Canada in commemoration of Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar month of Muharram.
Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and 72 of his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid, which some historians estimate to have been 100,000-strong.
