Iran’s Roads Minister Resigns

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi released his resignation letter to the public on Saturday.

In the letter, dated September 1 and addressed to President Hassan Rouhani, Akhoundi announced his resignation and asked the president to accept his decision.

The Rouhani administration plans to introduce to parliament its candidates for the position and two other vacant ministries on Sunday.

The parliament has impeached Akhoundi two times so far. The main reason behind his first impeachment was what the MPs called weak performance that led to the tragic train crash in November 2016 that killed 45 passengers and wounded dozens of others.

His second impeachment was tendered to the parliament after an Iranian airliner crashed in the country in February 2018.
