Mann: Zarif, Ashton Discuss Procedures of Today Talks in Geneva

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - European Union Spokesman Michael Mann said that Iran’s Foreign minister and EU foreign policy chief had good talks this morning and discussed how to proceed with today’s nuclear talks.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is also the country’s top negotiator, and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who oversees diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the six world powers, had a working breakfast in Geneva this morning.

During their working breakfast, Zarif and Ashton exchanged ideas on the latest developments regarding the talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany).

In a message posted on his twitter page at the end of working breakfast between Ashton and Zarif, Mann said that the two sides had “good meeting” today and discussed how to proceed with today’s negotiations.

He said that the meeting, also attended by deputy chief negotiators from both sides, had good results.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the new round of talks between the two sides will be kicked off at 11 am local time (1000GMT).

The two sides held a previous round of talks in the same Swiss city on October 15 and 16.

Iranian team of negotiators, comprised of five members and led by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, arrived in Geneva on Wednesday.

During the October talks, Iran presented a three-step plan with the aim of bringing the standoff over its nuclear program to an end.

The Iranian plan's formal name was "An End to the Unnecessary Crisis and a Beginning for Fresh Horizons."
