Sources: Zarif Likely to Cancel Visit to Italy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif may cancel his visit to Italy due to tight schedule in Geneva, western sources announced.

According to Tasnim dispatches, western sources in Geneva said on the condition of anonymity that Zarif’s visit to Italy is likely to be canceled.

They cited Iran’s foreign minister’s ongoing intensive talks in Geneva with representatives of the Group 5+1(the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) for the possible decision.

On the reason why Foreign Minister Zarif canceled his trip to Italy, his deputy Seyed Abbas Araqchi said as the minister has a tight schedule he came to the conclusion that the trip had to be canceled so that he could have more detailed and precise discussions in Geneva.

In a message posted on his Facebook page, Zarif had announced that he will pay a visit to Rome on Thursday, to meet his Italian counterpart, Emma Bonino.

Earlier media reports said that the meeting would be held at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday evening after Zarif’s arrival in Rome from Geneva.

Informed officials at the Italian Foreign Ministry said that the meeting was in response to Ms. Bonino’s invitation to his Iranian counterpart.

The Swiss city of Geneva is now hosting a fresh round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the group of six major world powers.
