Enemies Avoiding Direct Confrontation with Iran: General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior spokesman for the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces highlighted the country’s military preparedness in the face of foreign threats and said the enemies are fully aware that they are not able to confront the Islamic Republic directly.

“The enemy has come to the conclusion that they should not start a chest to chest fight directly against the Islamic Republic of Iran because they would not be able to win (the battle) and they are aware of this issue,” Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said in a ceremony in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on Wednesday to commemorate martyrs of a terrorist attack in the city on September 22.

The enemies know that they have no way other than provoking Muslims into fighting against each other and create insecurity in the Islamic countries, he said.

Some regimes like the Al Saud and Al Khalifa who are hostile towards the Islamic Republic have adopted the same policy of the Zionist regime of Israel to hide the main enemy, the commander added.

“Terrorist incidents are not a strange issue in the Muslim world today, and this thinking is in the form of Wahhabism, and some who have been deceived are supporting it,” Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi noted.

During a military parade in Ahvaz, which was staged concurrently with nationwide military parades on September 22 to mark the Sacred Defense Week, Takfiri militants wearing disguise opened fire at the people participating in the ceremony, killing 25 Iranian military forces and civilians.

The attack was simultaneously claimed by the Saudi Arabia-linked al-Ahvaziya terrorist group, and the Daesh Takfiri terror outfit, which is suspected of receiving Saudi patronage.

Three of the four assailants involved in the attack were killed by Iranian security forces, and a fourth one was arrested but later died of the wounds he had sustained during a security chase.

Following the terrorist act, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the attack in Ahvaz was the continuation of plots hatched by US stooges in the region to create insecurity in the country, adding that Iran’s intelligence services must swiftly find the accomplices of the "criminals” behind the attack and put them on trial.

The Leader said the "tragic and sorrowful" incident in Ahvaz and the killing of people by mercenary terrorists once again exposed the cruelty of the enemies of the Iranian nation.
