Iran Prosecutor Assassination: A Number of Suspects Arrested

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Police Chief Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam said a number of suspects have been arrested in connection with the assassination of a local judicial official in the country’s southeastern city of Zabol.

On Wednesday, November 6, unknown assailants killed Mousa Nouri, prosecutor of Zabol, by spraying bullets on his car in the street.

Nouri and his driver were shot dead when they were driving to the city’s court at 8 am local time.

Speaking to reporters here in Tehran on Sunday, Brigadier General Ahmadi Moqaddam said a number of suspects are now in police custody in connection with the bloody incident, adding that the case is still under investigation.

“Our intelligence work is still in progress, and we will present more precise details with the studies,” the police chief explained.

Zabol is a small town in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, close to the border with Afghanistan.

The attack came less than two weeks after fourteen Iranian border guards lost their lives and six more were wounded in an ambush terrorist attack in the border region of Saravan in Sistan and Balouchestan province.

However, Ebrahim Hamidi, provincial justice department head, dismissed any link between the recent incidents and assassination of Mousa Nouri.
