Enemy Sought to Hit Economy via Terror Attack in Iran’s Chabahar: Minister
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi blamed the enemies for a recent deadly terrorist attack in the country’s southeastern port city of Chabahar and said they sought to hit the country’s economy by targeting the transit hub.
In a speech in the northern province of Alborz on Tuesday, Alawi pointed to the terror attack in Chabahar, which killed and injured more than 40 people, and said the enemy acted with the aim of hitting the area’s economy.
He further referred to the country’s campaign on terrorism and said over the past 5 years, a large number of terrorist acts have been foiled by the country’s intelligence forces.
On Thursday, a vehicle laden with explosives went off close to a police headquarters in Chabahar, situated in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The terrorist behind the wheel was seeking to force his way into the police post, but failed to do so as local security forces quickly intervened.
Two police officers lost their lives and 42 other people sustained injuries in the explosion, which also killed the bomber.
The so-called Ansar al-Furqan terrorist group later claimed responsibility for the assault.
