Iranian Army Ground Force to Hold Massive Wargames Soon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Army Ground Force is preparing to stage large-scale wargmaes in the next few weeks in which different units of the force are planned to take part, a senior commander said.

Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters today that the country’s Army ground force will launch massive wargames, dubbed “Qamar-e bani-Hashem”, at the beginning of the Iranian month of Azar (starts on 22 November, 2013).

“The purpose of the exercises is to exhibit part of the armored units’ power as well as tactics of the airborne division,” the commander noted.

The senior commander said the forthcoming drills will confront the ground force troops with the actual conditions in a battlefield, preparing them to fight in an asymmetric warfare.

“The entire units of the ground force, including the armored, artillery, airborne and electronic warfare divisions as well as parachutists will participate in the drills,” Brigadier General Pourdastan pointed out.

Pourdastan had announced earlier that the massive military drills will be carried out “in southeastern Iran in an area of 250,000 square kilometers.”

“Qamar-e bani-Hashem wargames will be staged in a very vast and extensive region in 3 operational zones,” he said in August.
