Police Arrest Man Suspected of Killing Iranian Deputy Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The main suspect in the murder of Deputy Industries, Mines and Trade Minister for Parliamentary Affair Safdar Rahmatabadi has been arrested, commander of Tehran police force said on Wednesday.

General Hossein Sajedinia said that the suspect in the murder case has been handed over to Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Tehran Police for further inquiries.

Deputy Industries, Mines and Trade Minister for Parliamentary Affair Safdar Rahmatabadi was shot dead on Sunday evening, November 10, in his passenger car as the assassin shot two bullets into his head and his chest.

General Sajadinia said that the suspected shooter was arrested within 48 hours of intensified police and intelligence work following the deadly incident in his personal house in an eastern district of Tehran.

A senior Iranian security official had said on November 11 that initial investigation about the murder of an Iranian deputy minister proved that the incident was not a terrorist or a politically-motivated act.

Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Ali Abdollahi told Tasnim that new clues on the murder of Rahamtabadi proved that the incident was not a terrorist act.

“This has by no means been a terrorist act and we are working with law enforcement police to find the main suspect,” Abdollahi stated.

“We have gained new clues and information and we are trying to find more details about the case," Abdollahi underscored.
