Iran Opens Steelmaking, Pelletizing Factories

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s first vice-president on Tuesday inaugurated two pelletizing factories and a steelmaking complex in the country’s southern province of Kerman.

Accompanied by the industry minister and the governor of Kerman, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri inaugurated two pelletizing factories and the ‘Sirjan Iranian’ steelmaking complex on the second day of his visit to Kerman on Tuesday.

The annual production capacity of the two pelletizing factories stands at 5 million tons combined. One of them, located in the city of Sirjan, has employed 300 workers and has provided employment for 3,500 other people indirectly.

The steelmaking factory, located near the city of Bardsir, has been set up with an investment of 15 trillion rials. It produces one million tons of steel each year, and provides direct employment for 600 people.

In August 2015, Iran’s deputy minister of Industries, Mines and Trade unveiled plans to double the country’s steel production by 2025.
