Iran’s Larijani Calls for Closer Economic Cooperation with Japan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, who traveled to Japan on Monday, highlighted the importance of bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic and the East Asian country in various spheres, the economy in particular.

Speaking to reporters at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport before his departure on Monday, Larijani said he would visit Japan with the aim of boosting mutual cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo.

He further emphasized that economic relations between the two countries should definitely expand in various fields.

“Iran and Japan have had good cooperation in various sectors, including the economic sphere, and it is very important for us to strengthen and expand ties with Japan,” Larijani stated.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Larijani left Tehran for Japan on Monday at the official invitation of the speaker of the Japanese parliament.

Iran and Japan have ramped up efforts in recent years to boost bilateral relations in diverse political and economic fields.

Back in May, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono reiterated his country’s support for the 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers, saying it is important that Iran and other parties maintain the deal.
