Tehran-Beijing Ties to Remain Unchanged Regardless of Global Changes: China President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that his country’s plan to enhance its “comprehensive strategic partnership” will remain unchanged irrespective of global and regional developments.

“No matter how the international and regional situations change, China's resolve to develop comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran will remain unchanged,” Xi said on Wednesday in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Beijing.

He further underlined that the two nations should boost their “strategic mutual trust” and support each other's “core interests”.

"We support Iran in playing a constructive role in maintaining regional peace and stability and are willing to closely communicate and coordinate with Iran on regional issues," he added.

The Chinese president also noted that Iran and China should step up their anti-terror and security cooperation.

Larijani, for his part, said Iran took a “strategic and long-term” view to develop relations with China to promote peace and stability in Asia and the world.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also held a meeting with the Chinese president during which both sides stressed the importance of expansion of bilateral ties.

“Accompanied Speaker Larijani to Beijing for important talks with President Xi & Chinese leadership on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between our nations. Topping agenda: #Iran's role in Belt & Road initiative as well as continued political, security & economic cooperation,” Zarif tweeted on Wednesday ahead of his meetings with senior Chinese officials.

Larijani arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a two-day official visit following his last week's trip to Tokyo, where he held talks with senior Japanese officials on the expansion of commercial and economic cooperation.
