Iran’s Zarif Says OIC Ministers Shocked by Trump’s Golan Decision

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Turkey to participate in a meeting of the Organization of Islamic correlation, said all OIC ministers have been shocked by US President Donald Trump's decision about the Golan Heights.

“With OIC ministers in Turkey; all condemn barbaric Christchurch terror against Muslims & seek to unite against dangerous tide of racism & Islamophobia in the West,” Zarif said on his official Twitter account on Friday.

“All shocked by @realDonaldTrump continuing to try to give what is not his to racist Israel: first Al-Quds & now Golan,” he added in his tweet.

In a tweet on Thursday evening, Trump stated that it was time the United States recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, territory it occupied in the 1967 war.

"After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel's Sovereignty [sic] over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability [sic]!''

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly condemned Trump's statement on Friday, saying his “arbitrary decisions” plunge the region into new crises.

Russia's Foreign Ministry also responded Friday morning, saying that a change in the status of the Golan Heights would be a direct violation of United Nations decisions.
