TEHRAN (Tasnim) - 971st birthday of renowned Persian mathematician, astronomer and poet Omar Khayyam was celebrated worldwide on Saturday.

Khayyam was a Persian mathematician, poet, philosopher, astronomer. He has known for his work on cubic equations as well as his contribution to the parallel axiom.

Omar Khayyam born on May 18, 1048 in Nishapur in north-east Iran. He is remembered for the creation of the Jalali calendar, Pascal's triangle discovery.

Khayyam was also renowned for writing more than a thousand ‘Rubaiyat’ or verses of poetry.

He passed away on December 04, 1131 at the age of 83.

Google also remembered the Iranian mathematician with Doodle.
