Ansarullah Debunks US Call for Iran’s Yemen Pullout
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesman for the Houthi Ansarullah movement denounced the US president’s call on Iran to “get out of Yemen” as a ploy to milk Saudi Arabia.
In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Mohammad Abdul-Salam said US President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran had a role in Yemen and must withdraw from the Arab country is an attempt to deny the realities on the ground and make more profit by milking the Saudi regime.
“Trump’s comments are divorced from reality and do not even merit a response. Such claims by Trump are merely aimed at exacting ransom and push up the expenses incurred by the milking (Saudi) kingdom,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the US president had insisted that he was not looking to oust the Iranian government, but urged Iran to get out of Yemen.
“We’re not looking, by the way, for regime change (in Iran). It doesn’t work out too well. We’re not looking for that at all. They can’t have nuclear weapons. They can’t be testing ballistic missiles, which right now under that agreement… they’d be able to do. We want them to get out of Yemen,” Trump told journalists.
According to al-Masirah TV, Mohammad Abdul-Salam pointed to Trump’s calling the Saudi regime a “milk cow” back in 2016, adding that such a dairy animal will be ultimately butchered when its assets are exhausted.
The Ansarullah official also hit back at the US for initiating the Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen, saying the aggression against Yemen was masterminded by Washington and the crimes by the Saudi-led coalition are being committed by American weapons.
Last week, the US House voted to cut off American support for Saudi Arabia’s war on Yemen and to prevent the Trump administration from using its emergency authority to transfer munitions to the kingdom.
People of Yemen have been under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime for more than four years. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Official UN figures say that more than 15,000 people have been killed in Yemen since the Saudi-led bombing campaign began.
The Saudi war has impacted over seven million children in Yemen who now face a serious threat of famine, according to UNICEF figures. Over 6,000 children have either been killed or sustained serious injuries since 2015, UN children’s agency said. The humanitarian situation in the country has also been exacerbated by outbreaks of cholera, polio, and measles.
