Iran Wrestling Federation Elects New President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - World Championship and Olympic Games gold medalist Alireza Dabir has been elected President of the Iran Wrestling Federation for the next four years.

He won the election to determine the successor of Rasoul Khadem.

Dabir and Abdolmehdi Nasirzadeh were two candidates in the second round, where Dabir won the election in Iran’s Olympic Academy with receiving 31 votes.

Nasirzadeh earned 11 votes.

“First, I would like to thank everyone who attended the elections. Honestly, I have to say I am not happy and I am not also sad. I want to let everyone know that we will need everyone's support,” Dabir said.

Dabir won a gold medal at the 1998 World Wrestling Championships in Tehran and took a gold medal in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney two years later.
