Iranian Naval Fleet Set to Leave India’s Mumbai Port

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy’s 28th fleet of warships is set to leave the Indian port of Mumbai on Monday for the next destination on its overseas voyage, a senior navy commander said.

Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Navy for Operations Admiral Siavash Jareh said on Sunday, December 8, that the country’s 28th fleet of warships, recently deployed to East Asian waters, will set sail from India’s Mumbai to the next destination tomorrow.

According to the commander, the naval fleet is comprised of Alborz destroyer, Bandar Abbas logistic-combat warship, Younes super-heavy submarine, as well as a Bell 212 Twin Huey helicopter.

Admiral Jareh noted that the 28th fleet is among the largest fleets that have ever been deployed to the high seas.

Earlier on November 20, the Iranian commander had announced that the fleet is to be escorted by a super-heavy submarine.

“The most complicated technology in military equipment is related to submarines. The Navy, with its high capability, will deploy the super-heavy Tareq class (Younes) submarine to the waters of East Asian countries within the (naval) forces’ 28th fleet,” he said at the time.

Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and oil tankers.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
