Iranian Teams Discover Fate at 2020 AFC Champions League

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Sepahan and Persepolis have learned their opponents in the new season of the AFC Champions League.

The draw ceremony was held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday.

Sepahan has been drawn in difficult Group D. The team will meet Al Sadd from Qatar, winner in 2011 and semi-finalist in 2019, Al Nassr of Saudi Arabi and Play-off 1 winner (UAE/UZB/IRQ).

Persepolis will play Al Duhail of Qatar, Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun and Sharjah of the UAE in Group C.

Al Wahda FSCC of the UAE, Al Shorta of Iraq, Play-off winner (QAT/IRN/JOR/KUW) and Play-off winner (KSA/UZB/TJK) are in Group A.

Iran’s Esteghlal will play in Group A if it can defeat its opponents in play-off matches.

Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal, who defeated Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan to lift the 2019 title after runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2017, will have Shabab Al Ahli Dubai (UAE), Pakhtakor (UZB) and the winner of a play-off for company in Group B.

Iran’s Shahr Khodro will play in Group B if defeats its rivals in two play-off games.

A total of 56 teams will be vying for the 2020 AFC Champions League, with the group stage divided into the East and West Zones.

The 2020 season kicks off with the preliminary stage on January 14 with the two-leg final scheduled for November 22 and 28.
