US Fatalities in Ain al-Assad Far More Than Reported: IRGC Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said the American casualties caused by the January 8 missile attack that Iran launched on the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Iraq are much higher than what Washington has announced.

In comments at a ceremony marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, held in the northern city of Damghan, General Ramezan Sharif said the American casualties in the missile strike on the US airbase in retaliation for the assassination of Lt. General Soleimani were surely heavier than what the US authorities have reported so far.

Following a barrage of 13 heavy Iranian missiles that hit various parts of Ain al-Assad and demolished the strategic US military base in Iraq, American officials have cited conflicting statistics for the casualties, Sharif noted, adding that they will have to reveal the real number of casualties and the equipment destroyed in the attack during the 2020 US presidential election race.

The IRGC missile attack on Ain al-Assad ruined the “hollow might and prestige” of the US, he said, adding that the US was humiliated in the world, because no country had dared to strike any American military base over the past 70 years.

Highlighting the massive presence of people in the funeral of Lt. General Soleimani in Iraq and the importance of a bill passed by the Iraqi Parliament on the expulsion of American military forces, General Sharif said, “It is all up with Americans in the region. They know this fact themselves, but do not acknowledge it.”
