Macron: France, EU to Continue Humanitarian Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – French President Emmanuel Macron said France and other European nations are ready to continue their humanitarian cooperation with Iran amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on Monday, Macron expressed solidarity with Iranians amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Elysee Palace said in a statement.

"He recalled that France and its European partners had delivered medical equipment to Iran and were ready to continue humanitarian cooperation", it added.

Iran has been among the countries hardest hit by the new coronavirus, which first showed up in China in late December 2019 before spreading to other parts of the world.

Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman announced on Monday that more than 24,000 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease so far and have been discharged from hospital.

Kianoosh Jahanpoor said the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country has reached 60,500 following the detection of 2,274 new cases since yesterday.
