Iraqi Analyst: Iran-G5+1 Deal Has Positive Effects on Iraq Developments
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s nuclear deal with six world powers and improvement of ties between Tehran and the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region can go a long way towards improving the situation in Iraq and contributing to security in that country, an Iraqi political analyst said on Tuesday.
“This agreement will have a very positive effect on Iraq and the wider region, and help steer the developments towards peace and emergence of mutual understanding among the regional countries,” Majed Qammas told Tasnim.
He said that Iraq stands to reap the most benefits from the nuclear agreement and the resultant detente, as, he argued, some of the regional countries which have supported the terrorist groups in Iraq could -- in the wake of better ties with Iran -- give up hostility with the Iraqi government and their support for terrorists.
"After the deal, the Persian Gulf countries have tried to improve their ties with Tehran, which is a positive step. Iraq will be second in line to benefit from this new atmosphere. Better relations between Iran and countries to the south of the Persain Gulf could have positive results for Shiites in Iraq and the region," he added.
A former Syrian information minister and political analyst, too, said on Monday that Iran’s nuclear deal with the Sextet strengthens the position of Iran’s friends and allies in the resistance front.
“This agreement carries great consequence for regional developments, as the country's independent, peaceful nuclear program was recognized by major world powers,” Mahdi Dakhlollah told the Tasnim News Agency.
A second positive aspect of the Geneva deal, according to him, is that it proved that the global crises can be resolved peacefully if they are managed wisely, he said.
