Italian Parliamentary Delegation to Visit Iran Next Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Italian parliamentary delegation plans to pay a visit to Tehran on the first Friday of 2014, an adviser to Iran's parliament speaker said.

“The parliamentary delegation will arrive in Tehran next Friday to meet with our country’s parliamentary officials,” Hossein Sheikholeslam, the adviser of parliament speaker on international affairs told Tasnim on Friday.

The Italian team, to be headed by Lamberto Dini, president of the Italian Senate's foreign affairs committee, is planned to come to Iran on the first Friday of 2014, the adviser added.

He announced that the Italian parliamentarians are expected to hold meetings with a number of Iranian lawmakers and some foreign ministry officials during their stay in Tehran.

The upcoming talks between Iranian and Italian parliamentary officials would revolve around bilateral, regional and international issues, the adviser noted, adding that the two sides would also hold negotiations on bilateral parliamentary relations.

The upcoming visit would take place less than two weeks after Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino travelled to Tehran on December 21 for an official visit to hold talks with Iranian authorities.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Bonino met her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani in her two-day long visit to Iran.

Bonino’s visit came after Zarif travelled to Rome in November at the invitation of his Italian counterpart to exchange views on regional and international matters.

She was the first Italian high-ranking official to visit Iran after almost ten years.
