Turkey’s Military Rules Out Political Intervention in Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Turkish military has often intervened in the politics of the country since its inception, but it has come out and said it will take no action in the crisis that is growing by the day.

The announcement was welcome for the government following a legal defeat, the constitutional court ruling that the government could not force the police to inform them of all ongoing or intended investigations.

Receiving an honorary doctorate, the prime minister said he would not be forced out of office.

“Let me be clear. If our nation tells us to leave, we’ll go. There’s no hesitation there. Because that’s the office we respect. But when the people are telling us to stay, we won’t listen to someone who is telling us to go,” said Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan has been blaming foreign interference for the resignations of three ministers, and the spotlight that is being shone on corruption in his ruling AK party, Euronews reported.
