Speaker Reiterates Political Solution to Iran's Nuclear Issue

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran has always supported political solution to disputes over its peaceful nuclear program, and added that the recent talks showed that the issue can be resolved through diplomacy.

Speaking in a meeting with Chairman of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament) Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen, Larijani pointed to Iran's nuclear issue and the ongoing efforts to resolve disputes about the issue, and noted, "From the beginning, Iran favored a diplomatic solution to the issue, but some countries have never sought the resolution of the issue."

Referring to the recent talks about Iran's nuclear program, Larijani said, “The recent talks between the Iranian team of (nuclear) negotiation and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) proved that the Iranian nuclear issue can be resolved."

As regards regional developments, the Syrian crisis in particular, Larijani said “collective cooperation" is needed to overcome the crisis in Syria, otherwise it will be stretched  to the other regions of the world.

The Irish top parliamentarian, too, expressed optimism about the positive outcome of Iran’s talks with the group of the six world powers, and voiced Ireland's support for the continuation of dialogue and consultations over Iran's nuclear issue.

The lawmaker also considered the presence of terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda, in the Middle East region as a threat to the regional and international peace and stability.

The visit by Irish delegation came after several European parliamentary delegations, including a British parliamentary delegation, visited Iran during the past few weeks.
