President Highlights Continuation of Healthcare Evolution Plan despite Economic War on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran boasted about his outgoing administration’s success in ensuring health equality over the past eight years, saying it has pressed ahead with a healthcare evolution initiative under the fierce economic war.

In remarks after inaugurating a number of medical projects via a videoconference on Saturday evening, President Hassan Rouhani said major progress has been made in Iran in terms of medical equipment and healthcare personnel under his administration.

“The administration’s goals in this regard, namely countering economic deprivation, (promoting) justice, and development of the healthcare system have materialized acceptably,” he added.

Rouhani also said that after the launch of the healthcare evolution scheme in 2014, the administration pressed ahead with the initiative despite the economic war that the enemies waged against Iran.

If the healthcare evolution scheme had not been not implemented, it would not be clear how the country could have struggled with the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021, he added.

In comments earlier in the morning, Rouhani referred to the coronavirus vaccine and handling of the vaccination program in the country as a major success during his administration.

Last month, Iran’s Health Minister Saeed Namaki said that the country will become one of the world’s biggest producers of the coronavirus vaccine by the end of summer.

Iran has already granted emergency use authorization to Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine, Covaxin made by India’s Bharat Biotech, Oxford/AstraZeneca developed by Russia’s R-Pharm Group, and the AstraZeneca-SKBio made in South Korea.

The total death toll from the pandemic in Iran since its outbreak in February 2020 has surpassed 90,600.
