Iranian President Stresses Administration’s Care for National Unity

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The outgoing president of Iran admitted that his administration’s performance has not been faultless in the past eight years, and said he has refrained from responding to many criticisms for the good of national unity.

Speaking in the last cabinet meeting during his two terms in office on Sunday, President Hassan Rouhani said his administration has refrained from responding to many critical comments in order to maintain national unity and solidarity.

Pointing to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that took effect in 2015, he said the economic indices, rising economic growth, influx of investment and growing exports and imports after coming into force of the nuclear deal indicate that his administration was “a victor both in economy and in politics.”

While the cabinet was trying to reduce the inflation rate to one-digit figures, the country faced an economic war and the situation changed, he said, adding that the sanctions impeded Iran’s oil exports and banking relations.

Rouhani admitted that his administration’s performance has not been perfect and flawless, offering his apologies to the Iranian people for any faults and problems.

Ebrahim Raeisi has won the June 18 presidential election by winning nearly 62 percent of the votes and is going to succeed Rouhani this week.
