Iran Registers Highest Daily COVID-19 Deaths in over 3 Months

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of patients who died of the coronavirus infection in Iran over the past 24 hours stood at 434, the highest death toll over the last 99 days.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 92,628, saying the disease has taken the lives of 434 patients over the past 24 hours.

She said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has exceeded 4,057,750 following the detection of 38,674 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected since Wednesday, 4,519 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 3,467,700 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 6,170 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 26.23 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 11.5 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 201 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.27 million.
