In a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, Raisi stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism.

“The main way to fight terrorism is to respect the sovereignty of countries, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, with its excellent record of fighting terrorism, welcomes the cooperation of all countries in the fight against terrorism,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of Tehran-Ankara relations in the economic and trade fields, Raisi said, “Soon, with the holding of a joint summit in Tehran, the development of cooperation will enter a new phase.”

“We emphasize that the problems of the region must be resolved within the region and with the active participation of regional countries, and there is no need for foreign intervention,” the Iranian president noted, according to the government’s website.

For his part, Erdogan stressed the importance of cooperation between the two neighbors, especially in the field of economy and security, and said, “The idea of cooperation is prevailing among the countries in the region and recent trips and consultations show its success.”

He pointed to the significance of joint cooperation meetings between Tehran and Ankara, saying, “In my future visit to Tehran, the relations between the two countries will enter a new chapter of development.”
