Expansion of Strategic Relations with Iran Significant for Russia: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, highlighted the importance that his country attaches to the promotion of strategic cooperation with Iran.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Moscow on Wednesday, Slutsky hailed the premium parliamentary relations between Russia and Iran.

He also noted that the enhancement of strategic cooperation with Iran in the region is fundamental and highly significant for Russia.

For his part, Amirabdollahian described Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s trip to Moscow as a sign of the importance that the Islamic Republic attaches to the relations with Russia.

Pointing to the meeting that Raisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held in the Kremlin on Wednesday, the foreign minister said the close relations between Tehran and Moscow are on the path to strategic ties.

Raisi arrived in Moscow on Wednesday and held a meeting with his Russian counterpart.

The Iranian president is accompanied by the ministers of foreign affairs, oil, and economy in the trip.

This is Raisi’s third foreign trip after taking office in August 2021. He has already visited Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
