Both Political Parties Unpopular with Americans in New Poll
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Both major US political parties were found to be unpopular in a new NBC News poll published on Tuesday.
According to the poll, 44 percent of participants said they viewed the Republican Party negatively, 34 percent that they viewed it positively and 21 percent said they were neutral, The Hill reported.
The Democratic Party's ratings in the poll were fairly similar, with 48 percent saying they viewed the party negatively, 33 percent saying they viewed it positively and 18 percent saying they were neutral.
Both parties also received more negative than positive ratings when the same poll was conducted in October.
US President Joe Biden and former president Trump received net-negative ratings from poll respondents as well. Of those surveyed, 48 percent said they viewed Biden negatively and 39 percent said they viewed him positively. Meanwhile, 51 percent said they viewed Trump negatively and 37 percent said they viewed him positively.
Despite these similar ratings, Republicans who responded to the poll appeared to be notably more enthusiastic about the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, with 61 percent saying they were interested in this November's elections compared to 47 percent of Democrats who said the same.
The difference in enthusiasm could be attributable to Republicans having the opportunity to regain control over the House and Senate in the upcoming elections. The political party of a newly elected president tends to lose ground after they take office.
A Quinnipiac University poll released in November found that more respondents wanted Republicans to take control of Congress in the 2022 midterms than wanted Democrats to retain their majority.
The NBC News poll surveyed 1,000 adults from Jan. 14-18. The results of the poll have an overall margin of error of 3.1 percentage points and a margin of error of 3.49 percentage points among registered voters.
