Norway Willing to Develop Diplomatic Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy Foreign Minister of Norway Henrik Thune highlighted his country’s plans to promote diplomatic relations with Iran.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Saturday, Thune described the enhancement of diplomatic contacts with Iran as a high priority in his country’s foreign policy regarding the West Asia region.

Welcoming the promotion of relations between Oslo and Tehran, the Norwegian diplomat expounded on his country’s stances on the developments in Ukraine and Afghanistan.

He also extended the Norwegian foreign minister’s invitation for Amirabdollahian to visit the Scandinavian nation for a meeting of the Oslo Forum.

For his part, the top Iranian diplomat described the age-old political relations between the two countries as a strong backing for their interaction, stressing the need to broaden the political, trade and parliamentary cooperation.

He also hailed the participation of the Iranian expatriates in the political, economic and scientific activities in Norway as a valuable asset to closer relations between the two countries.

Amirabdollahian further clarified Iran’s stances on the regional developments, the situation in Ukraine, Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as the security and stability in the Persian Gulf.

The two diplomats said the political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers provide a good opportunity to promote interaction and mutual understanding.
