Iran, Tajikistan Urge Interaction for Regional Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The presidents of Iran and Tajikistan called for close coordination between the two countries to ensure regional security.

In a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon on Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized the necessity for closer security coordination between Tehran and Dushanbe.

“Iran is concerned about the security situation in the region, particularly in Afghanistan,” he added.

Iran believes that the security and prosperity of the Tajik and Iranian people are the same, Raisi noted, hailing the growing economic relations between the two countries.

He also invited the Tajik president to pay a visit to Iran, saying the trip would help enhance the bilateral and regional cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe.

For his part, Rahmon thanked Raisi for the invitation and congratulated the Iranian president and nation on Eid al-Fitr.

During a visit to Tajikistan in September 2021, Raisi weighed plans for the start of a new chapter in growing relations between the two countries coupled with close cooperation in various fields.

Raisi also urged that the Iranian and Tajik authorities should maintain regular meetings and bilateral negotiations in order to found sustainable and inclusive relations between the two Persian-speaking nations in such a way that the ties would turn into a regional model.
