Venezuela Seizes 3.6 Tons of Marijuana

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Venezuelan armed forces seized 3.6 tons of marijuana when they intercepted a truck near the border with Colombia, narcotics police said.

The suspicious vehicle was stopped in the western state of Apure, the National Anti-Drug Office (ONA) said.

"The drugs were being transported ... by two people of Venezuelan nationality," ONA Chief General Alejandro Keleris wrote on Twitter.

In 2012, about 45 tons of drugs were seized in Venezuela, according to official figures, AFP reported.

Drug-traffickers, including members of Mexico's powerful crime syndicates, are increasingly using Venezuela to smuggle drugs into other nations.
