FM: Iranian N. Negotiators Buoyed Up by Nation’s Support

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the country’s team of negotiators engaged in nuclear talks with the major world powers receives its impetus from the grass roots support.

“The greatest support for the (Iranian) nuclear negotiation team is the presence of the people on the scene,” Zarif told reporters on the sidelines of the mass rallies on the occasion of 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution victory on Tuesday.

Referring to the stunning turnout in the countrywide rallies as a sign of the Iranian nation’s scorn for the US war rhetoric against Tehran, Zarif stressed that the language of threat will have no bearing on the nation.

The minister also noted that Iranians’ presence in the February 11 rallies indicates that “nobody can impose anything on the people.”

This year’s mass rallies in Tehran and a whole host of other cities in Iran saw the demonstrators voicing support for the Islamic establishment and deploring the recent US threatening remarks against the Islamic republic.

This comes after some senior US officials have in recent weeks stepped up their provocative remarks about a possible military action against Iran, if the nuclear talks between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) fail to yield results.

Meanwhile, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Monday played down the US “ludicrous talk” of military action as a viable option against Iran, arguing that even the American military commanders are well aware that such an option would not work anymore.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari lashed out at Washington for its repeated rhetoric of taking military action against Iran, and explained that the US claim that military option is still on the table is just to make the White House’s policies more palatable to the US nation.
