TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The political committee of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) passed a resolution highlighting the role of the Islamic countries’ parliaments in addressing the ongoing conditions across the Palestinian territories.

Speaking to reporters here in Tehran on Sunday, Kazem Jalali, an Iranian lawmaker and spokesman for the ninth meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union, said the union’s political committee has on Saturday passed 26 various resolutions.

“The resolutions related to Palestine’s situation, the role of the Islamic countries’ parliaments and their responsibility for countering the Judization of al-Quds and the Zionist regime’s plots in this regard,” Jalali explained.

According to the spokesman, representatives of the Islamic parliaments in the political committee have also approved a number of other resolutions in connection with the occupied territories in Syria and Lebanon, unity among the Islamic governments to confront the threats that could affect the fate of the Muslim nations, as well as resolutions that necessitate the fight against Islamophobia, brute force and extremism.

Tehran is gearing up to host the ninth meeting of the IIPU, which will be officially launched in a ceremony on February 18.

44 countries have announced preparedness to attend the IIPU Conference. 25 parliament speakers will be among the participants at the event in Tehran.

The IIPU was established in 1999 based on an initiative by Iran. It seeks to strengthen the parliamentary cooperation among the Islamic countries in order to solve the challenges facing the Islamic world.
