Moroccan Protesters Urge Gov’t to Cut Ties with Israel over Regime's Atrocities in Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Thousands of protesters gathered in Rabat, Morocco's capital, demanding the government sever ties with Israel in response to the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza.

Around 3,000 demonstrators flooded the streets of Rabat on Sunday, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against normalization with the occupying regime, expressing solidarity with Gaza by chanting phrases like "Palestine is not for sale" and "resistance go ahead to victory and liberation."

The protesters strongly advocated for an end to normalization with Israel, pressing the Moroccan government to reverse its United States-mediated normalization efforts that began in 2020.

The Israeli offensive on Gaza, initiated on October 7 following an operation by the territory's resistance groups labeled al-Aqsa Storm operation, has led to a devastating toll. Gaza's Health Ministry reports nearly 18,000 fatalities and close to 49,000 injuries due to the ongoing aggression.

This demonstration is part of a series of protests by Moroccans condemning Israel's military actions in Gaza. However, Sunday's march stands out as the first organized by the opposition Justice and Development Party, previously leading Morocco's elected government from 2011 to 2021.

In addition to demanding diplomatic dissociation from Israel, the protesters urged a boycott of brands supporting the Zionist regime, while strongly condemning the heavy military and political support provided by the United States for the regime's genocide in Gaza.

A protester, while signing a petition demanding the annulment of the rapprochement deal between Rabat and Tel Aviv, emphasized the urgency of severing ties with Israel, citing the destruction and casualties inflicted in Gaza as a result of Israel's atrocities.
