Iran Police Conclude Successful Wargame in Border Areas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Border patrol units of the Iranian Law Enforcement Police Force successfully completed 4-day exercises in the country’s western province of Kermanshah on Wednesday and accomplished all they had set out to do, a high-ranking border police commander said.

General Hossein Zolfaqari, the commander of Iran’s border police forces, said on Wednesday that the recent exercises, dubbed “Eqtedar (Might) 3”, have achieved all its targets successfully.

The Law Enforcement Police Force on Sunday began to hold the four-day drills in the country’s western province of Kermanshah, with more than 6,000 forces from its border patrol unit attending i6n the wargame.

The drills were held in the county of Qasr-e Shirin, in a westernmost region near Iran-Iraq shared borders.

Border guards from 5 different provinces took part in the wargame, which General Zolfaqari said were aimed at improving the border police forces’ capabilities, raising the level of their combat preparedness and heightening coordination between the guards along the borders.

The commander also noted that the Eqtedar 3 wargame conveyed the message of peace to the neighbors, saying, “Border security would be possible only through mutual cooperation between the neighboring countries.”

The wargame consisted of different phases and included various tactics, such as ways to fight against gangs of outlaws, weapon smugglers, human traffickers, smugglers of illegal commodities as well as the armed groups, Zolfaqari explained.

On Tuesday, the forces participating in the drills started to employ new types of weapons that have been manufactured inside the country and are fit for the border police operations, he added.

According to the commander, a new type of balloon for the surveillance missions was also tested in the wargame, enabling the guards to receive online images of the border areas easily.

Moreover, new bulletproof vehicles were also tested in the exercises, the commander announced, saying the vehicles have been reinforced by the domestic industries in order to fulfill the border units’ purposes in special missions.

The first such border exercises was held in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, while the Eqtedar 2 was staged along the country’s water borders in the southern province of Hormozgan.
