Rafsanjani: Extremist Groups in Region Committing Inhuman Acts

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council (EC) Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani deplored the crimes committed by the extremist groups in the region, and described them as "inhuman acts".

“With their ignorance about Islam’s divine concepts, they (terrorists) provoke naive young people into doing anti-Islamic and inhuman acts under the pretext of jihad for the sake of God and going to heaven,” Rafsanjani said in a Saturday meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Hossein Sadeqi, here in Tehran.

He also deplored the terrorist operations in some Islamic countries across Africa and Asia as moves against humanity.

Rafsanjani explained that the terrorist groups’ apparent opposition to some governments is an excuse to disturb the true image of Islam in the world and to justify the crimes committed by the Zionists against Muslims.

He further highlighted the significant role of Muslim clerics at the current juncture, saying the onus is on them to call for moderation, unity and fraternity as the true image of Islam.

Amid a growing trend in the terrorist moves in the Middle East region and the activity of extremist groups in Syria and Iraq, a whole host of Muslim clerics -both Shiite and Sunni- have expressed strong opposition to such brutal measures, saying the Takfiri groups, such as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), are enemies of both Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

In a reminder of the serious threat of extremism to nations, more than 100 British clerics of various denominations of Shiite and Sunni Muslims from around the country have signed an open letter, urging young Muslims not to travel to Syria and Iraq for supporting militancy.
