Iran, Italy Lead Pools at FIVB World League Final Six

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran and Italy led their respective pools in the FIVB Mens' Volleyball World League's final six.

Iran started its campaign in Pool A on May 30 with a two 3-0 defeats against host Italy. The team flew to Brazil and lost to the team 3-2 and defeated them 3-0.

Brazil traveled to Iran after one week and was defeated against Iran 3-2 and beat the host 3-2.

One week later, the Iranian team defeated Italy 3-0 and 3-1 in Tehran. In late June, Iran earned third and fourth successive victories against two European teams, beating Poland 3-1 and 3-0.

Finally, Slobodan Kovac’s men suffered tow 3-1 and 3-0 defeats against Poland in Gdansk.

In Pool I, Iran will play the world’s first two teams Brazil and Russia in a single round-robin slated to start July 16 at the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy.

In Pool H, Italy will face the US and the winner of Pool C.

The semi-final of Pool C will take place on Friday between the four teams remaining. Belgium will go up against France and the other half of the semis will be between Australia and the Netherlands.

The top two teams standing high in their respective Pools will go on to the final four knockout games scheduled to start on July 19 and the winners of the semi-final rounds will play for the crown on July 20.
