Iran Disbands Human Organ Trafficking Ring

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s intelligence forces have identified and disbanded a major ring involved in human organ trafficking activities.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry said seven members of the band have been arrested with the cooperation of the Judiciary body.

It said the arrested members of the band have confessed to forging identification documents to gain their illicit objectives.

The ministry further referred to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s membership to the international conventions and the country’s laws regarding the unlawfulness of human organ trafficking, and urged the medical community to remain vigilant against illicit activities in the field of organ donation.

Human organ trafficking involves the illicit trade in human organs for transplant. A worldwide shortage of legally donated organs for purposes of transplantation has led to an international black-market in which human organs are bought and sold illegally.
