Iran’s Electricity Production Jumps nearly %7

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has generated 121,950 gigawatts of electricity over the past five months, marking a 6.98 percent increase compared with the same period last year.

Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (starting on March 21), some 113,925 gigawatts of power have been generated in thermal power plants, while 8,024 gigawatts were produced by hydroelectric units across Iran, reported Iran’s Energy Ministry.

The ministry added that during the five-month period, thermal power plants’ generation rate has increased by 6.85 percent compared with the same five-month period last year.

Iran power industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation.

Earlier in May, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad had announced that the country's electricity exports had increased 40% since the beginning of the current Iranian year, adding that Tehran had signed several contracts with the neighboring states for export of electricity.
