Fighting ISIL US Pretext for Occupation : Iranian MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker said Washington intends to exploit the idea of targeting terrorism as an excuse to occupy regional countries.

“The US seeks to occupy regional countries under the pretext of fighting against ISIL (the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant terrorist group),” Mohammad Ismail Kowsari, member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission told the Tasnim News Agency.

He underlined that people of Syria and Iraq will confront the US just as they stood up against ISIL.

Kowsari further said any US military action against the terrorist group would be just a show.

Referring to Washington’s military, financial and political supports for ISIL, he said the group would have been destroyed in Syria in a few days without US backing.

The Iranian parliamentarian said ISIL militants have been surrounded in Iraq and will be soon destroyed “with the blessings of God and efforts of Iraq’s military and popular forces”.

He went on to say that Iran considers the creation of ISIL as part of US polices to kill Muslims and foment religious discord in the region.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

On September 12, US President Barack Obama said the United States is assembling an international coalition to “snuff out” the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group.

Iranian officials have since criticized Washington’s bid to build global support for military action against the ISIL as hypocritical.
