9 Militants Killed in Exchange of Firing with Police in Pakistan's Karachi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - At least nine militants had been killed in shooting out with police in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Rao Anwar, senior Superintendent Police, said the police had conducted a search operation on an intelligence tip-off of the presence of the suspected militants in Steel Town area of Karachi, the capital city of the country's south Sindh province.

He said that during the search operation an exchange of firing had taken place between the police and terrorists, leaving nine militants killed.

The SSP said the police had also recovered a heavy contingent of arms and ammunition including an explosive-laden rickshaw, Xinhua reported.

Police did not reveal identities of the killed militants; however, they said the militants had been involved in carrying out attacks on civilians, police and paramilitary troops in the city.
