Iran, Venezuela on Track of Stronger Trade Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran and Caracas appear to become closer trade partners with Iran preparing to inaugurate a cement production factory in Venezuela and the Latin American country demanding to import pharmaceutical products from the Islamic Republic.
In a meeting with head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, Venezuela’s Ambassador to Tehran Amenhotep Zambrano called for the export of medicine from Iran to his country.
“Iran has a great capacity for medicine exports, and Venezuela is also in need of medicine. That’s why we call on Iran to immediately send a representative to Venezuela for signing a contract in this regard,” the envoy said.
Zambrano also described his country as a gateway to Latin America, noting that Iran can get into that market by ramping up exports to Venezuela.
The Iranian official, Valiollah Afkhami Rad, for his part, invited Venezuela’s health minister to travel to Iran, pay visits to the country’s medicine plants and compile a list of the pharmaceutical items the Latin American nation needs.
According to Afkhami Rad, Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri is also scheduled to pay a visit to Caracas within the next few weeks to inaugurate a cement production factory there.
Iran and Venezuela enjoy high level of diplomatic ties and are strategic allies, as both countries strongly oppose to the “US imperialism”.
Trade between Venezuela and Iran have grown steadily during the recent years and the two countries have launched joint ventures in a number of sectors, including energy, agriculture, housing, and infrastructure.
