Iran Attaches Importance to Ties with AU: Deputy FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian highlighted the importance of Africa and the African Union in Iran’s foreign policy.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran attaches significance to cooperation with the African Union, especially the AU’s Commission for Human Resources, Science and Technology,” Amir Abdollahian said Tuesday in a meeting with Paul Martial Ikunga, African Union Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology.
He added that despite pressures and sanctions imposed by hegemonic powers, Iran has achieved great capabilities in the fields of human resources, science and technology and is prepared to have comprehensive cooperation with African countries in these areas.
Ikunga, for his part, lauded Iran’s wide-ranging progresses and said Africa needs Iran’s experiences in the field of development.
“In fact, the purpose of my visit (to Tehran) is investigating grounds for cooperation between Iran and the AU in various fields,” he added.
The African Union is a union consisting of 54 African states. It was established on 26 May 2001 in Addis Ababa and launched on 9 July 2002 in South Africa to replace the Organization of African Unity.
